LESSONS OF LIFE

¹HUMMMMM, the people of the land wanted rain, and they saw a cloud and rejoiced. Behold, it was coming towards their tracts, winding through the hills. Their irrigation channels would be full, their fields would be green, and their season would be fruitful. But no! What is this? It is a tremendous hurricane carrying destruction on its wings! A violent blast, with dust and sand! Its fury destroys everything in its wake! Lives lost! Fields covered with sand-hills! The morning dawns on a scene of desolation! Where were those who boasted and did wrongs! There are only the ruins of their houses to witness to the past! (The people had been wiped out, and any small remnant had fled. Nothing was to be seen but the ruins of their houses.)

²HUMMMMM, the events of the past have become parables for the present and the future. If there are any to whom the signs from Nature, from within their own heart and conscience, and from the voice of Revelation, are not enough to convince, what possible kind of exposition will they accept? Each individual, each generation and each people is responsible for its good deeds and misdeeds. The laws of actions and their fruits apply; you can not blame one for another. Righteousness is the remedy. Uphold the standard of unity.

³HUMMMMM, the light of the Revelation make things clear to human, and to the world. It is harder to be patient and forgive, and yet to get wrongs righted than to bluster about and “punish the guilt” or “teach them lessons”. It may look like futility or lack of purpose, but in reality it is the highest and noblest form of courage and resolution. And it may carry out the purpose of reform and the suppression of evil even better than stern punishment.

⁴HUMMMMM, the Hypocrites at all times are plausible people. They present a fine exterior; they dress well; they can usually afford fine equipages; they try to win the confidence of every one, as they have no scruples in telling lies, and apparently expressing agreement with every one. Their words are fair-spoken, and as truth does not check their tongues, their flattery deception knows no bounds. But all this is on the outside. As they have no sincerity, nothing that they say or do is worth anything. The Hypocrites are like rotten timber. They have no firm character themselves, and for others they are unsafe props to rely upon. Their conscience always troubles them. If any cry is raised, they immediately get alarmed and think it is against them. Such human are worse than open enemies. Repentant and amendment are required from Hypocrites. They should turn from evil and seek the Truth. It is goodness that produces strength and prosperity.

⁵HUMMMMM, the downward course in evil is rapid. But the most tragic consequence is that evil persuades its victims to believe that they are pursuing good. They think evil to be their good. They go deeper and deeper into the mire, and become more and more callous. Evil protects (or thinks it protects) evil; it has really no power of protection at all, for itself or for others. If they plot against the Truth, the Truth will destroy them, just as, if they accept the Truth, the Truth will make them free. Truth is manifesting itself against all odds and the whole world is seeing. Cast off fear and take refuge in divine guidance and goodness (hummmmm).

⁶HUMMMMM, instruction in wisdom by means of a knowledge of life and its laws, and an understanding of wonderful universe, human see things from different angles and dispute about them; human hide real motives, and pretend to virtues which they do not possess; they may attribute such virtues to others among them and those may come to believe it themselves; human conceive likes and hatreds on insufficient grounds; human forget what they should remember, and remember what they should forget. Among human are of narrow vision and false values. Three things that hold society together are: Revelation, which commands Good and forbids Evil; Justice, which gives to each person his due; and the strong arm of the law, which maintains sanctions for evil-doers.

Justice is the central virtue, and the avoidance of both excess and defect in conduct keeps the human world balanced just as the heavenly world is kept balanced by mathematical order.

⁷HUMMMMM, checking human’s selfishness and narrowness of view and giving comfort and guidance; grasping selfishness which would deprive others of their just rights or seize things which do not properly belong to it. If human can get over this covetous selfishness, they achieve real prosperity in justice and truth. Retreat from false positions, advance to the right or withdraw from the wrong.

⁸HUMMMMM, Say: do not suppose that I am going to harm you individually or socially; the very opposite is my wish; but I cannot force you to right conduct; that must depend upon the purification of your own faith and will. It is the habit of the world to make a marked man of any who diverges from the beaten paths of their favourite sins and who pleads earnestly for the cause of Truth and righteousness. Do not persecute or mock the Teacher. This is to purge the world and give it a good start.

⁹HUMMMMM, some among human mock at Truth and hug Falsehood to their bosom. Every time that they do an ill deed, it make a stain or rust on their heart. The stains deepen and spread more and more, until the heart is sealed. It is such stains that stand in the way of their perceiving Truths which are obvious to others. The stain of evil deeds on their hearts sullies the mirror of their hearts, so that it does not receive the light to every heart, through signs in human’s conscience, in Nature and in Revelation. Heart is the seat of intelligent faculties and understanding as well as the seat of affections and emotions. Your soul shall be enlightened with divine wisdom, your heart and life filled with righteousness (hummmmm).

¹⁰HUMMMMM, condemnation of anti-social vices: scandal-mongering, talking or suggesting evil of men or women by word or innuendo, or behaviour, or mimicry, or sarcasm, or insult; detracting from their character behind their backs, even if the things suggested are true, where the motive is evil; and miserly hoards, blocking up the channels of economic service and charity, and the circulation of good-will among human. Woe to the man or woman who deals in scandal, in word or act, or by insults or suggestions. Woe to the practitioners of anti-social vices.

¹¹HUMMMMM, illumination of universal light for removal of Falsehood, pretence, and illusion; for reduction of injustice or inequality, darkness or evil; there is much make –believe, and Falsehood often masquerades as Truth and is accepted as such even by those who should know better. The harmonisation of human community is the apex of human wisdom.

¹HUMMMMM, O teacher! Do not worry or feel dishearten by attitude of those that accept Evil as there Good, they are hopeless. Can they profit by preaching or guidance? They have themselves deliberately rejected all guidance. Instead of resenting the preaching of Truth, they should welcome it and profit by it. Teacher, go on tilling the soil that is open to you. Dry, unpromising soil may seem to all intents and purposes dead; there is no source of water near; moisture is sucked up by the sun’s heat in a far-off ocean, and clouds are formed; winds arise; it seems as if the wind blows as it listen, drives to the dead land; the rain falls, and behold! There is life and motion and beauty everywhere! The unfolding of a new world out of an old world, that is folded up and dead.

²HUMMMMM, good is mixed with evil, knowledge with ignorance, power with arrogance; it is only when matters are brought to an issue that evil is separated distinctly from good. The evil consorts with evil, and good with good. The latent faculties in man are enough to teach him the distinction between good and evil, to warn him of the dangers that beset his life. But to awaken and stimulate them, a personal appeal is making to each individual through the ‘still small voice’ within him. Devil takes advantage of every weak point, and sometimes even human good and generous sympathies are used to decoy them into the snares of evil. The forces of evil never relax their efforts to draw their brethren deeper and deeper into the mere of sin and destruction. Every human who sees evil must speak out against it as there is always a chance that the warning may have effect and save a precious soul.

³HUMMMMM, Evil grows with what it feeds on. So goodness and felicity grow with there practice. The Good may be alone to start with, but (unlike evil ones) they get holy companions. The suggestion of some people that the teacher is possessed or inspires by evil spirits is itself the work of evil. Behind such suggestions are lying and wickedness, or at best some half-truths caught up in hearsay and twisted so as to show Good in an evil light. No Good is ever lost; the humblest Good, in word or deed, is exalted to high rank; the highest glory and power. Seek the attainment to the highest glory and power. It is the nature of Evil to work underground, to hide from the light, to plot against Righteousness. Its plots must fail.

⁴HUMMMMM, the evil of hypocrisy has to be dealt with in all ages. Keep clear of their wiles, but at sometime, do not hesitate to show them the error of their ways, or to put in a word in season, to penetrate their hearts and put them aright. Evil tempts man in all sorts of ways and presents seductive promises and alliances to delude him into the belief that he will be saved from the consequences. Preach, guide, instruct and show the way. Evil must cease to be evil, before it can see or enjoy good.

⁵HUMMMMM, Say: I do not teach unkindness and wrong-doing. Close-fisted ness and envy are among the worst forms of selfishness, and appear especially incongruous in people of power, authority, or influence, from whom is expected generosity in giving and generosity in seeing other people’s prosperity or happiness. Misuse of wealth, property, and resources is condemned in three ways; do not acquire anything wrongfully or on false pretences; do not hoard or amass wealth for its own sake but use it freely for good, whether for yourself or for your neighbours; and particularly careful not to waste it for idle purposes, but only so that it may fructify for the good of the people. I am not dazzle by your splendour, but stand out straight for Truth.

⁶HUMMMMM, the misleaders have used their power and influence to spread evil. The ‘right hand’ is the hand of power and authority. Instead of using it for righteous purposes, they used it for evil, - selfishly for their own advantage, and mischievously for the degradation of others. Their evil example is before you; corruption, injustice and irresponsibility. They give countenance to evils, and it becomes difficult to give them up. Selfish arrogance prevents them from mending their life and conduct. Have faith in righteousness. The responsibility is personal, and cannot be shifted on to others. Evil means a personal rebellion against truth, right and justice. Evil has no authority over you, except in so far as you deliberately choose it.

⁷HUMMMMM, acknowledge incontestable facts and do not ridicule the teaching of Truth. The facts touch the inner springs of your life intimately.

Cast away evil from thy land. The evil is not part of the heavenly system; it is a thing in outlawry, a self-willed rebellion. Let the good be guarded and protected against every assault of evil. Discipline in ranks, unity of plan and purpose in repelling evil, and concerted action in promoting the Truth are required.

⁸HUMMMMM, human that is a cynic and live an evil life deserves: - Fire of Regrets; the Home of Sorrow and Regrets. Dreadful bitter Tree grows at the bottom of the fire. – Fruits; the tree’s fruit-stalks, which should have been tender, are like the heads of devils; its produce is eaten voraciously. – Drinks; on top of the fire is a boiling mixture to cut up wrong-doers entrails. Every time wrong-doers complete a round of orgies they will return to the same game (unending chain of evil). Justice demands that those who sow evil should reap the fruit, but the punishment is due to their own conduct and not to anything external to themselves. The agony of the condemned ones will penetrate their being through and through.

Human that has faith in righteousness and live a good life deserves: - Gardens of Bliss with all their charm, design, greenery, birds’ songs and fountains, the Home of Happiness and Dignity. –Food and Fruits; in drink there is no intoxication and in fruit there is no satiety. Delicious Drinks from crystal springs, for social pleasure. – Companionship; congenial company seated on Thrones; the society of companions of the opposite sex, with beauty and charm; pure type of chaste womanhood; chaste, not bold with their glances; but their eyes are big with wonder and beauty, prefiguring grace, innocence, and a refined capacity of appreciation and admiration. The bliss of the blessed will penetrate their being through and through.

⁹HUMMMMM, the sun and the moon both traverse the belt of the Zodiac, and Zodiac, and their motions are different; they never catch up each other. When the sun and the moon are on the same side and on a line with the earth there is a solar eclipse, and when on opposite sides in a line, there is a lunar eclipse, but there is no clash. Similarly Night and Day follow each other, but being opposites cannot coincide, a fit emblem of the opposition of Good and Evil, Truth and Falsehood. The Day or the Light is a positive thing. The Night or Darkness is merely negative. The negative cannot be withdrawn. But withdrawing the real thing, the positive, which filled the void, nothing is left but the void. This is eminently conformable to reason and the true facts of nature.

1HUMMMMM, a wise one is one versed in knowledge, human and divine and carrying out in practical conduct the right course in life to the utmost of his/her power. His/Her knowledge is correct and practical , but not necessarily complete, the conception of a human of heroic action as well as of deep and workman-like knowledge of nature and human nature, not merely dream or speculation. Do not misread the true signs of the times, intangible signs conveyed by History and Revelation.

2HUMMMMM, human has the faculty to subdue the forces of nature and to penetrate through high mysteries with human powers of reason and insight, safeguarded in the universe. In all things be moderate. Do not go the pace, and do not be stationary or slow. Do not be talkative and do not be silent. Do not be loud and do not be timid or half-hearted. Do not be too confident, and do not be cowed down. If you have patience, it is to give you constancy and determination that you may bravely carry on the struggle of life. If you have humility, it is to save you from unseemly swagger, not to curb your right spirit and your reasoned determination. Do not play with time nor be deceived by appearances.

3HUMMMMM, human fear each other as equals in a state of society at perpetual warfare. To remove this fear they appoint an authority among themselves –sovereign authority whom they consider just –to preserve them from this fear and give them an established order. But they must obey and revere this authority and depend upon this authority for their own tranquillity and security. Even with their equals there is always the fear of public opinion. Be kind, considerate, and courteous to parents and those in authority. All unlawful grasping of wealth at other people’s expense; economic selfishness and many kinds of sharp practices, individual, national, and international is condemned. True human wisdom is also divine wisdom; the two cannot be separated.

4HUMMMMM, winds cool and purify the air, and brings blessings of rain, which fertilises the soil. Winds help international commerce and intercourse among human through sea-ways and air-ways. Perish not in the storms, take advantage of winds and prosper. Be enlightened, acquire knowledge, make use of your intellects and do not be swayed by your passions. Be guided, as you are patient of control; and the fruits of revelation. Do not against good and eschew evil. There is constant progress for the live ones.

5HUMMMMM, gather knowledge, form judgment, and cultivate goodness. As man’s intellectual gaze over the physical world expands, he sees more and more how unity is the dominating note in the universe. The fundamental guide to good conduct, the clear rules laid down in all dispensation to help human to lead good lives. Regulate your life according to needs and circumstances. Punctilious self-respect and respect for others in small things as well as great are the key-notes in simple rules of etiquette. Make your individual, domestic, and social life all contribute to your holiness. Take human precautions and do all in your power to protect yourselves from evil.

6HUMMMMM, the light is a source of enlightenment which depends upon the perceiving faculty or intelligence. There is no darkness as intense as the darkness of not-being. A dark thing is called dark simply because it cannot appear to anyone’s vision; it never comes to exist for sight, though it may exist in itself. But that which has no existence for others nor for itself, is assuredly the very extreme of darkness. Know the nature of the Truth as against the false fancies of men.

7HUMMMMM, a home brings before human minds a picture of peace and happiness. When to it are added honour and hospitality it adds further to the idea of happiness. Bring up your family in righteousness and lead in all good. Give a lead for truth and righteousness, and give a wide berth to falsehood and to futility.

8HUMMMMM, 0 ye thinkers and reformers of the age, do not murmur and repine if your first plan seems to fail, but retrieve the position by adopting a course which appears to be the best possible in the light of your duties. You are light to illuminate the whole world, diffusing light everywhere.

WONDERS OF NATURE


1HUMMMMM, there are countless millions of stars in the universe. The first step in astronomical knowledge is to find the marvellous order, beauty, and harmony, on a scale of grandeur. The first broad belt is the Zodiac, which marks the sun’s path through the heavens year after year and the limit of the wanderings of the moon and the planets. Twelve divisions of it are called signs of the Zodiac. Each marks the solar path through the heavens as it is seen, month after month. Thus the seasons can be marked off in solar year, and express in definite laws the most important facts in meteorology, agriculture, seasonal winds and tides. Then there are the mansions of the moon, the mapping out of the constellations, and the other marvellous facts of the heavens, some of which affect human physical life on this earth.

2HUMMMMM, winds are powerful factors in the government of the physical world. Winds come gently as harbingers of the blessings of rain and fertility; winds can come as violent tornadoes, uprooting and destroying; winds can scatter seeds far and wide, and winds can separate chaff from grain, or clear the air from epidemics; and winds literally carry sound, and therefore messages. Observe the orderly flight of migratory birds or the regulated behaviour of ants, bees, and other creatures who live in communities, certainly they have means of communication with each other. The flight of birds is one of the most beautiful and wonderful things in nature. The make and arrangement of their feathers and bones, and their stream-line shapes, from beak to tail, are instances of purposive adaptation. Birds soar with outstretched wings; they dart about with folded wings; their motions upwards and downwards, as well as their stabilisation in the air, and when they rest on their feet, have given many ideas to man in the science and art of aeronautics.

3HUMMMMM, see clouds effects: thin clouds floating about in fantastic shapes, joining together and taking body and substance, then emerging as heavy clouds heaped up, which condense and pour forth their rain. Then the heavy dark clouds in the upper regions, that bring hail, - how distinct and yet how similar! They are truly like mountain masses! And when the hailstones fall, how local their area! It hits some localities and leaves free others almost interlaced! And the lightning – how blinding flashes come from thunderous clouds! Contemplate the wonder and mystery of the skies with all the countless beautiful stars and planets and lights in them, and laws of order, motion, and symmetry, that respond to the highest mathematical abstractions without a flaw.

4HUMMMMM, the great salt Ocean with its seas and gulfs is one: and the great masses of sweet water in rivers, lakes, ponds, and underground springs are also one: and each is connected with the other by the constant circulation going on, which sucks up vapours, carries them about in clouds or atmospheric moisture, and again brings them condensed into water or snow or hail to mingle with rivers and streams and get back into the Ocean. Both from the sea and from rivers and lakes human get fish, of which some kinds have a flesh particularly fresh and tenders, and of a most delicate flavour and marine creatures of all kinds. Human get the treasures of the deep: pearls, coral, amber, and such delicately tinted stones as the carnelian, the agate, the goldstone, or other varieties of quartz pebbles found in river beds, and considered as gems.

5HUMMMMM, the biggest factor affecting human in the external physical world is the light, heat, and electric or magnetic energy of the sun: the sun is the source of all the light, heat, and energy, and indeed the source and support of all the physical life. It is the biggest factor and yet most remote from human in solar system. The sun as the centre of human solar system also stands as a symbol of the present order of things. The mystery of the heavens with their countless stars and the planets obeying the laws of motion, and the sun and moon influencing the temperature and climates of the earth from thousands or millions of miles, illustrate the order and perfection in creation. The physical forces will also break up with the break-up of the sun.

6HUMMMMM, there are wonderful things in the universal creation on earth – the Grand Canyon and the Niagara in America, beautiful harbours like that at Sydney in Australia, mountains like Fujiyama, Himalayas, and Elburn in Asia, the Nile with its wonderful cataracts in Africa, the Fjords of Norway, the Geysers of Iceland, the city of the midnight’s sun in Tromsoe, and innumerable wonders everywhere. Wonders upon wonders are disclosed in the constitution of matter itself, the atom, and the forces of energy, as also in the instincts of animals, and the minds and capacities of human. Worlds upon worlds are created and transformed every moment, within and presumably beyond human’s vision. Can human judge of the unknown from what they know?

7HUMMMMM, an ignorant man may think that water absorbed in the soil or seed sown beneath the sod is lost, but it replenishes numerous rills and streams, and feeds and sustain numerous roots and forms of life, and throws up all kinds of vegetable life. So with things that come out of the earth: who can count the myriad forms of herbs and trees that grow and perish, and yet sustain a continuous life for ages and ages? See the artistry of production from rain the wonderful variety of crops and fruits – golden, green, red, yellow, and showing all most beautiful tints human can think of. And each undergoes in nature the gradual shading off in transformation from the raw stage to the stage of maturity.

8HUMMMMM, wonderful colours and shades of colours are found in rocks and mineral products – the white veins of marble and quartz or of chalk, the red laterite, the blue basaltic rocks, the ink-black flints, and all the variety, shade, and gradation of colours. ‘Azure hue’ of mountains from a distance due to atmospheric effects, and these atmospheric effects lead human thoughts to the glories of clouds, sunsets, the zodiacal light, the aurora borealis, and all kinds of nature’s gorgeous pageantry. In outer nature human can, through colours, understand and appreciate the finest shades and gradations.

9HUMMMMM, there is nothing more certain in the world; physical, moral, and spiritual, than that every cause, great or small, must have its corresponding consequences. A record is more enduring than memory: in fact (if properly preserved) it is perpetual. If, further, it is expressed in clear language, without any obscurity, it can always be read with perfect precision and without any doubt whatever. The cosmic laws are just and inevitable.

MYSTERY OF LIFE


1HUMMMMM, a code of the mystery of human’s life. From dead matter creative act produces life and living matter. Life and living matter again seem to reach maturity and again die. No material thing seems to have perpetual life and the cycle of life and death seems to go on. The earth itself, seemingly so inert, produces vegetable life at once from a single shower of rain, and in various ways sustains animal life. Normally it seems to die in the winter in northern climates, and in a drought everywhere, and the spring revives it in all its glory. Human physical life depends on the earth for its produce and the sky for rain, the heat of the sun, and other phenomena of nature. Rain and gifts of nature and the daily, seasonal, and secular changes are evidences of living.

2HUMMMMM, the first beginnings of social life arise through sex and love. Children arise out of the union of the sexes. And it is always the female sex that brings forth the offspring, whether female or male. And the father is as necessary as the mother for bringing forth daughters. Unregenerate man is pugnacious in the male sex, but rest and tranquillity are found in the normal relations of a father and mother dwelling together and bring up a family. The variety of forms and habits among animals is adapted to their various modes of life and stages of biological evolution.

3HUMMMMM, mind and soul (being) are used to compass the farthest reaches of Time and Space. Mankind are in different climates and countries; external conditions, and developed different languages and different shades of complexions. And yet their basic unity remains unaltered and they feel in the same way, unity beneath the diversity can be realised by extended knowledge. There are the variations in time. Old languages die out and new ones are evolved. New condition of life and thought are constantly evolving new words and expressions, new syntactical structures, and new modes of pronunciation. Even old races die, and new races are born.

4HUMMMMM, teaching and guidance, to which human must hearken. For their psychological conditions, sleep, rest, visions and insight; sleep and dreams, the refreshment human get from sleep to wakefulness as well as from wakefulness to sleep, as also the state of human thoughts and feelings and sub-conscious self in these conditions are both wonderful and mysterious. These processes suggest a background of things, an origin and destiny which is a subjective starting point. (Sleep is the cessation of the working of the nervous system, though other animal functions, such as digestion, growth, and the circulation of the blood, continue. Sleep is the repose of the nervous system, and in this respect it is common to the living. The mental processes (and certainly volition) are also suspended in sleep, except that in ordinary dreams there is a medley of recollections, which often present vividly to human consciousness things that do not or cannot happen in nature as human know it in their coordinated minds. But there is another kind of dream which is rarer – one in which the dreamer sees things as they actually happen, backwards or forwards in time.)

5HUMMMMM, do not against the laws of all nature. Yes you are gifted with great intelligence and skill and so proud of your material civilisation. The greatest material civilisation and resources may not save you from the destruction of a rain of brimstone with possibly an earthquake and a volcanic eruption. There is spider’s residential or family mansion which is the tubular nest or web, a silk-lined house or burrow with one or two trap doors. There is spider’s hunting box, a spider’s web, consisting of a central point with radiating threads running in all directions and acting as tie-beams to the quasi-circular concentric threads that form the body of the web. The whole structure exemplifies economy in time, material and strength. A spider always has a single thread connecting him with his web, to keep him in telephonic communication. The spider’s threads are very strong from the point of view of relativity, but in an actual world they are flimsy. The spider’s most cunning architecture cannot stand against a wave of a man’s hand. His poison glands are like the hidden poison, in this beautify worldly plans which may take various shapes but have seeds of death in them.
There are human’s frailty, false hopes, questionable motives, the mischief done by the neglect of Truth, and the way out for those who have entangled themselves in the snares of Evil. It is to get out of the spider’s web of this frail world and fulfil.

7HUMMMMM, it is to purge you of anything (act, plan, thought, motive, words) of which you should be ashamed or which would work injustice to others. Passing into your inmost life and being, for then justice can be upheld. Finding true common grounds of belief and to show by human’s urbanity, kindness, sincerity, truth, and genuine anxiety for the good of others, that you are not cranks or merely seeking selfish or questionable aims. Some men preach vicarious atonement, for, if followed to its logical conclusion, it means both injustice and irresponsibility, and puts quite a different complexion on the nature of sin in moral laws.
